Dr M’s oxymoronic logic on bigotry
YOURSAY ‘By his opposition alone, Mahathir is against fighting bigotry.’
Anti-bigotry bill hurts poor bumiputera, says Dr M
Ferdtan:
The logic of Dr Mahathir Mohamad is oxymoronic to say the least. Senile he is not; obviously he has no concrete or logical reasons to rebut the move made by National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) proposing the anti-bigotry bill, so he can only murmur a weak but contradictory rebuttal.
By his opposition alone, Mahathir is against fighting bigotry. What does that mean? Could it mean that he is supporting bigotry - religious and racial? So can we say Mahathir is a bigoted man?
How can he equate “aims to criminalise bigotry will discriminate the bumiputera?” How? It defies all logic even if it comes from an old man. So bigotry = bumiputera? If I am a bumiputera, I would be offended.
Second logic (or illogic) of Mahathir: “The bill promotes meritocracy that he said “very fair” but it will hurt the race with the poorest people who are the bumiputeras.
Mahathir who ruled the country for 22 years with such extraordinary power and authority, how come the Malays are still poor after over five decades of BN rule?
You said that they will not have the same access to opportunities but how come the children of Umno, including yours, have such opportunity to be billionaires? Is it ordinary bumiputeras are not as good as Umno bumiputeras?
As to your suggestion (I read it as your wry sarcasm) Malaysia should learn from the European Industrial Revolution where the oppressed gained rights through union action.
Really, during your time as PM you were so anti-unions, employers’ friendly, that I don’t understand this statement.
As to allegedly his crony tycoon Francis Yeoh, Mahathir, why beat around the bush with veiled parable which nobody understands, just tell us in simple language, “Is Francis Yeoh your crony?” Yes or no.
Casey: In Mahathir's early days as the PM of this country, I used to accord him with some amount of intellectual respect. But into his second term and beyond, that respect began to wane for I'd overrated him.
Now, I actually think that he's just a man with neither the brain, nor the integrity, nor the ability to reason. What we have is a self-serving man consumed with distorted beliefs, vengeful, greed and selfishness.
Indeed, through his 22 years of unchallenged mismanagement - in the name of socioeconomic restructuring - the country rots; and saw the creation of class and social hierarchy.
Opportunists go out of the way to secure "holier than thou" titles - Dato, Dato Sri, Tan Sri and Tun - and jostling to move up the rank of court jesters and cronies.
It is a phenomena akin to when man lived in the jungle where strength determines hierarchy among men; and where rulers vested with power through victorious combat, or through lineal heritage as in the case of royalty, ravage their subjects.
Odysseus: Mahathir, if you want to help a poor family, you help them regardless of their race or religion. They will pray to their God to bless you.
Equating wealth to any race is not right morally or ethically. You automatically deprive the poor from other race from getting help. You will wrongly channel aid to the rich from the chosen race.
Please get your moral compass right before make such statement again.
Amoda: That evil man again. Any race-blind policy that helps the poor, underprivileged and less capable must be supported because poverty does not choose any particular race.
If more bumiputeras are poor, then more bumputeras will be helped. This is a no brainer. How would an anti-discrimination policy deprive bumiputeras of opportunities as claimed by the evil one?
And why would the poorer ones not have a chance to study because of this policy? It is the racist NEP that has deprived many poor from getting the education they deserve.
The only reason the Malay NGOs are against these Harmony bills is they know that without the affirmative action by the government, the Malays will quickly learn to stand on their own and no longer be beholdened to Umno and they will not be easily led by their noses anymore and Umno's power over them will quickly diminish.
The poor Malays must realise what their leaders are doing to them. They should be proud to say they can do it on their own because they can.
Rightan: Mahathir, will the poor bumi achieve equal status before racial discrimination can be abolished, never mind NEP has been around for the past 40 years in a capitalist system, the rich bumis and non-bumis will continue to dominate the economy because of its inherent nature of rewarding the rich much more than the poor, you saying that the poor non-bumis have to continue to bear the brunt of discrimination and live side by side with the poor bumis?
There can never be equality under the capitalist system, whether between bumis/non-bumis or even among the bumis.
Fair Play: Mahathir, I hate to say this. Are you, indirectly, admitting that although you had served for 20 plus years as prime minister, the current state of affairs afflicting the Malay-Muslim community are the results of failed policies?
The forefathers of the non-Muslim communities came here as poor immigrants, too.
Mahathir, why fear the Harmony bills?
