Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) has tightened monitoring and tests on the quality of treated water supplied by water treatment plants, over and above the guidelines set by the Health Ministry.

Its corporate communications and public health general manager, Priscilla Alfred, said in a statement yesterday this was following the detection of mining water that had been channelled into the Selangor River which provided raw water to three water treatment plants (LRA) - the Selangor River Phase One LRA, the Selangor River Phase Two LRA and the Selangor River Phase Three LRA.

In this connection, Syabas has extended its parameter tests in treated water more than the requirements of the ministry and increased the frequency of the tests to once every three days.

The control of the quality of treated water supplied to consumers was done in three stages - the raw water before it is treated, the water after treatment and the water in the distribution system to consumers.

The monitoring and tests of the quality of water are conducted in 700 distribution networks and at the premises of the consumers.

Syabas had given an assurance that the quality of treated water distributed to consumers would continue to be safe and within the stipulated standards, she added.
