A petition signed by 3,015 Felda settlers to voice their grouses in Parliament was rejected by speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia today as some 300 of them made their way to the Parliament building to wait for a result on their petition.

The petition, brought by four PKR MPs, was rejected due to technical reasons by Pandikar and was not allowed to be read out in the House, while the settlers sat in a field just outside the House to wait for a result.

The settlers are unhappy that Felda has not allowed them to sell their oil palms to all companies even though they no longer owe Felda and had been given land titles, which makes them smallholders.

PKR leaders told the settlers outside the House today that they will not cease fighting for the settlers’ rights even though the petition was rejected by the speaker.

“I am disappointed that the speaker rejected this petition for technical reasons,” said Subang MP R Sivarasa, who was one of the four signatories for the petition.

The three other MPs were N Surendran, Gooi Hsiao Leong and Sim Tze Tzin.

However, Pandikar Amin said that the petition should only have one MP endorsing it and thus rejected the petition wholly, also citing discrepancies in the signatures of the 3,015 petition signatories.
