Vietnam has signed a contract to export 200,000 tonnes of rice to Malaysia and loading will start next month, traders said today, in a deal that will help support export prices ahead of the peak of the crop harvest.

The contract was signed for the 5 percent broken variety at a price of US$410 a tonne, free on board basis, when a delegation of Vinafood 2, Vietnam’s largest rice exporter, visited Malaysia early this month, traders in Ho Chi Minh City said.
Loading will take place in July and August, they said.
The deal is the biggest since late April when Vietnam, the world’s second-largest rice exporter after India, was awarded deals to supply 800,000 tonnes to the Philippines.
