Whatever insults levelled against Islam will supposedly be forgiven by PAS members when the offender meets their spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and snaps photos with him.

According to an article on the Umno Youth website, DAP exploits this "fanaticism" of PAS supporters towards their leaders.

"Smelling the weaknesses of these PAS fanatics, DAP uses it to maintain the 'status quo' of their dominance over PAS.

"This element is used as a 'core-tactic' or 'foundation' for its (DAP's) bigger plan of 'divide and rule'," reads the article penned by Ameen Latif.

Over the years, he noted that the PAS spiritual leader was visited by various opposition figures such as PKR assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong, who was embroiled in a scandal .

"Then came the humorous statement from Nik Aziz to separate the real issue concerning a leader’s attitude with personal rights," Ameen says.

When the meeting with Nik Aziz is done, he said, PAS members would boast that DAP has been schooled on Islamic matters and the controversy that arose was just slander by Umno.

A similar tactic, he said, was used by DAP MP Teo Ni Ching when her attire at a mosque ruffled the feathers of Muslims, including PAS members.

And the latest to jump on the "cleansing of sins" bandwagon was DAP's candidate for the Teluk Intan by-election, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.

She met Nik Aziz over her statement that as a Muslim, she cannot object to the implementation of hudud but at the same time, would abide by her party’s stand on the matter.

DAP has always been a stiff opponent of PAS’s theocratic goals, especially to implement hudud.

"Dyana's response (when queried on the hudud issue) is on the same level of the popular political answer in this country, which is 'looks like me, but it is not me'. (Answers) to fool supporters," reads the article.

During their meeting, Nik Aziz had advised Dyana, who is also DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s political secretary, to put religion above the party.
