There is a bid to rehash an old campaign to overthrow PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang amongst PAS leaders which includes a party MP, the Islamist party’s youth wing said today.

In a report by Utusan Malaysia , Selangor PAS Youth leader Syarhan Humaizi Abdul Halim ( left ) said the dissident group had used a pro-opposition news portal to slander Abdul Hadi, by reporting that Abdul Hadi was helping Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim stay in power despite protests from certain quarters.

The group was also allegedly out to topple Abdul Hadi because of his firm pro-Syariah law stand.

“What’s more alarming is that there are a few statements made by a Selangor PAS MP which undermine the party’s decisions. Now, they are taking aim at the PAS president,” Syarhan Humaizi was quoted as saying by the Umno-owned newspaper.

He added that the same recalcitrant PAS members had gone against Abdul Hadi after GE12 (in 2008) by saying that he was pro-Umno and blamed him for failure to draw 30 BN MPs over to the opposition under the Sept 16, 2008 plan.

“There are many enemies of Islam from outside and inside the party that are plotting this ‘grand design’. There are some who are MPs, and editors and reporters are working with them all this while,” Syarhan Humaizi said.

He added that PAS Youth was prepared to defend the Islamist party from all attacks from “liberal parasites”.
