The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is prepared to assist the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (MDTCC) in making it mandatory for holders of permits under the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) to take the integrity pledge to check corruption and malpractices pertaining to subsidised fuel.   

MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Mustafar Ali (right) said the matter had been discussed with MDTCC secretary-general Alias Ahmad. 

"MACC is prepared to cooperate to ensure that integrity is made one of the practices to avert abuse of subsidised fuel and corruption," he said in a statement today.

 

Last Friday, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Hasan Malek said conditions for the application of PDA permits would be tightened with the introduction of several measures to curb abuse of subsidised fuel.

 

Mustafar said the integrity pledge would involve about 2,300 PDA permit holders comprising 900 for transport, 920 for bunkering and 550 for wholesale. 

He said the MACC would also discuss with oil companies soon on the need for the integrity pledge.

Some oil companies had signed the Corporate Integrity Pledge (CIP) with MACC and the implementation was constantly monitored, he added.
