Vice-presidential candidate Jusuf Kalla was rushed to Abdi Waluyo Hospital in Jakarta Centre after completing a debate yesterday.

Jusuf, 72, was admitted to the hospital because he was said to be exhausted following a tight campaign schedule ahead of the presidential general election this July 9.

Doctors at the hospital decided that Jusuf, who is the running mate of presidential candidate Joko Widodo or Jokowi, be admitted following his deteriorating health after a medical checkup was done.

Today a group of colleagues and leaders from the Jokowi-Jusuf campaign team visited the former Indonesian vice-president, including former industrial minister Fahmi Idris.

When met by reporters, Fahmi said Jusuf was advised by doctors to rest until he recovered after falling ill from exhaustion due to his tight campaign schedule.

Last night Jusuf and his opponent, Hatta Rajasa, took part in a debate involving the vice-presidential candidates, which touched on human resource development, science and technology.

The debate, which only showcased the vice-presidential candidates, was the fourth out of five debates organised by the General Election Commission to face the presidential election.
