The shutters on news portal FZ.com came down today, with its parent company Edge Media Group’s acquisition of rival portal The Malaysian Insider last month.
“From July 1, FZ.com will be discontinued following the acquisition of The Malaysian Insider .
“Thank you for supporting us these two years. Please continue to back Edge Media,” FZ.com managing editor Terence Fernandez said on Twitter.
FZ.com ’s close to 30 reporters and editors will be redeployed within the Edge group’s various platforms, including The Malaysian Insider .
It is understood that only a handful will be joining the English and Bahasa Malaysia desks in The Malaysian Insider at the portal’s office in Menara UOA in Bangsar Utama, Kuala Lumpur.
The others will be reporting for duty at other outlets, including The Edge Financial Daily, Personal Money, Edge Online and EdgY tomorrow.
Some will also form a special investigative team led by Fernandez. The team's pieces will be published in the Edge's platforms.
The Malaysian Insider is expected to shift its operations to the Edge’s headquarters at Menara KLK in Petaling Jaya once its lease at Menara UOA expires.
FZ.com was founded in October 2012 as the Edge Media Group’s foray into political and general news.
Group CEO Ho Kay Tat ( left ) in announcing the acquisition of The Malaysian Insider, said it was driven by shared values and editorial stance.
The Edge Media Group also has stakes in business radio station BFM 89.9.
