A blogger accused of two counts of insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong through him comments on Twitter would submit a representation to drop the charges.

Effi Nazrel Saharudin, represented by counsel Syaredzan Johan, told the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today that the representation would be sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers this week, on the grounds that there was no case against him.

The blogger allegedly committed the offences through two ‘10befiend’ Twitter accounts, at a condominium in Taman Puncak Desa, Kepong near Kuala Lumpur at 11.21am and 11.23am on June 1, 2013.

He faces a maximum fine of RM5,000 or one year’s imprisonment, or both, if found guilty, under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), punishable under sub-section 233(3) of the same Act.

Judge Zulqarnain Hassan set July 16 for case management, while deputy public prosecutor Nor Zalizan Lazarous appeared for the prosecution.

The accused is under RM4,000 bail with one surety.
