Seeds of a republic taking root, warns Umno writer

Odin: If the intention of the Selangor PAS elected representatives was indeed to turn Malaysia into a republic (as alleged by the Umno Youth website), it has come much later than the act of the one who has claimed herself to be the ‘First Lady of Malaysia’ (FLOM).

 

Only republics have first ladies, who are the wives of their presidents. There are no official titles for the wives of prime ministers. The most senior lady in Malaysia is the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

 

Now, then, pro-Umno writer Ameen Latif, who is this particular person?

 

Hplooi: Much ado over nothing. But then the extreme right wing thrives on the 'power of fear'. And where no ‘fear’ exist, then it would be necessary to create ‘fear’.

Another quotable quote from a prize idiot. Someone should read to him extracts from the Hansard of 1992 which contains then PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's formal address to Parliament.

 

ACR: Did the writer also include the 'natang episode', Mahathir's constitutional amendments, the recent Johor Housing Board Bill issue and the huge legal and legislative challenge it would be to remove the monarchy in his analysis? Or is the article just another brainless rant?

The concept of a republic was already subtly introduced by Mahathir during his PMship by removing executive powers from the monarchy.

 

Malaccan: It is common knowledge that the unprecedented demonisation of the palace and curbing of the rulers' influence were perpetrated by Mahathir and Umno even before 2008.

 

Mahathir recently stated that rulers shouldn't get involved in business. This may be good advice but is Mahathir a republican because of this?

 

The author is obviously trying to paint the four PAS MPs in a bad light and trying to manipulate the palace against these four for his master's benefit. Shame on him for slandering in this fasting month.

 

The real treachery is when Umno and their servants try to make use of the rulers as tools, and by their corruptive influence seek to exploit inherent weaknesses to taint and smear the rulers, for their political fight.

 

Sultan Nazrin of Perak recently gave a hint of the treachery of false counsellors. Surely here is a clear example of one.

 

The four MPs care for the persons and institution of the rulers and seek to limit the damage the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) and Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), who think they are on par, are doing to the palace and to the nation.

 

Ipohcrite: I don't know about you but after reading what Ameen Latif had written, I am convinced that this man is not just pro-Umno but schizophrenic as well.

 

His arguments don't hold up and he is merely speculating without a modicum of actual proof or evidence to support his wild claims. I hope he hasn't taken any illegal substances lately.

 

Hafidz Baharom: The PAS MPs did not urge that these institutions be abolished, instead they urged a curtailing of the sweeping powers of Mais and Jais, which is truly needed.

 

Remember the Borders book raid? Remember the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) fake ex-Christian seminar?

 

And then, there's all this nonsensical business with the Bible seizure which now has reached ridiculous levels of discussions which could just be Jais and Mais saying they will not adhere to the Selangor sultan's wishes.

 

With all this in mind, Jais and Mais need to be brought down a peg. It's just getting too ridiculous and is becoming just plain insulting to Islam.

 

Fairnsquare: The control of Mais, which is incidentally being made use of politically to destabilise the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor, has nothing to do with the reduction of the royalty's authority.

 

That was done by Umno under Mahathir. The suggestion is to control Mais from being misused by politicians.

 

Unouno: The deal between the the sultans and the rakyat was, the sultans will have their place in Malay society and the country will provide for them and they limit themselves to ceremonial roles only, they must not involve themselves in politics or business or running of the country.

 

Everyone knows many sultans are heavily involved in business. The Johor sultan got a piece of land from the state government and later allegedly sold it to a China developer for RM4.5 billion.

The money belong to the people. If there is anyone who is undermining the royal institution, it is the people.

 

Caesar: If PAS is more DAP than DAP, then DAP is more PAS than PAS, is it? If like that, then are MCA and Gerakan more Umno than Umno?
