No immunity for sex case, whatever his nationality
YOURSAY ‘It doesn’t matter whether he works in CIA, KGB or Malaysian army.’
'What if NZ grills him on security matters?'
Rojak: The last time I entered New Zealand, I was grilled for one hour and all my bags were subjected to chemical swab tests.
However, the officers were polite and professional and didn't ask anything off-topic, and since I had done nothing wrong I had no doubt that it was just an honest spot check.
By suggesting that the Kiwis may use the case to obtain confidential information, pro-Umno website MyKMU.net is saying more about their expectations of Malaysian authorities than the realities of New Zealand.
Slumdog: May I ask what national security is MyKMU.net concerned about?
The world already knows Malaysia has dud submarines, duds manning military radar, authorities cannot protect Sabah’s coastline from intruders, false passport holders can get through immigration, illegal immigrants enter Malaysia without any deterrent, etc.
Indeed, Malaysia’s extent of national security can be written on the back of an envelope.
Real Truth: Well, military attache Muhammad Rizalman Ismail can refuse to answer any question concerning security issues and moreover, this case will be handled by police who have no interest in Malaysia's security.
He is innocent until proven guilty and NZ's judicial system does not succumb to any political interference and is very independent. Rest assured, he will get a fair trial.
Toffeesturn: “Although he does not hold a high position, it is certain that he is privy to information that can jeopardise the nation if obtained by foreigners,” said MyKMU.net.
What information? Was he trying to set up a jihadist movement for the Malaysian government in NZ?
For goodness sake, stop all these stupid remarks. Both countries have enjoyed excellent relations, let us stop adding fuel to fire.
Fairnsquare: To MyKMU.net, I say stop your rubbish, NZ is a far more superior military power than Malaysia.
Our military capabilities include losing of a jetliner that flew across the country undetected, was invaded by a motley crew of Sulu warriors, is unable to prevent kidnapping in Sabah, we have submarines that don't work, etc.
What secret would NZ want to learn from this country? The man is accused of attempted rape. Does this mean that Malaysia would not detain a diplomat who is a criminal suspect?
Dearpixel: National security issues? Maybe it's about other secrets - who's in bed with who, who's got their fingers in which pies, who's scratching who's back, and who owes who’s favours.
Anonymous #32557251: Oh I see - if you hold a position in a "classified" section of the government, you're immune to all crimes committed.
A rapist or intended rapist is a sick man, whether he works in CIA, KGB or Malaysia army. How low can one go? Why do we always become international headlines for the wrong reasons?
Wira: The intelligence of pro-Umno bloggers are glaringly lacking. The alleged military attache holds the rank of warrant officer II.
If I remember correctly, that rank does not even qualify him to be a commissioned officer. What kind of military secrets can such a low rank soldier be entrusted with in a Malaysian high commission in New Zealand?
Kit P: Put it this way. There would be a huge outrage in Malaysia if a foreign diplomat is accused of burglary and attempted sexual assault, then invoked diplomatic immunity and allowed to leave the country, and has yet to face any legal action in his home country..
Anonymous_1398011840: What a joke. Do you think NZ is interested with Malaysia? Your reasoning just gave a open licence for all diplomatic personnel overseas to commit crime and escape from it.
NZ only bring this matter to public after one month, I'm sure that's the last effort for them to seek justice as all diplomatic channels could had been exhausted.
Baiyuensheng: You mean grill him on our radar capability? Or our submarine whereabouts? or where is our fighter plane engine?
Bystander: This pro-Ummo website is desperately trying to argue that Malaysia's primary concern for not waiving diplomatic immunity was because of security reasons.
You think NZ judicial system is like what is being practised here? He is charged with burglary and attempted sexual assault and not espionage, for God’s sake. How would this veers into the country’s security?
Rizalman can always not answer unrelated or irrelevant questions even if he is asked.
Gunner: An attempt to cover up? I am also very certain that NZ is not interested in our defence secret as our defence capability is doubtful. Just look at radar system, it can't even detect a big civilian plane!
Vgeorgemy: Perhaps he is only in charge of the log book monitoring those coming in and out of the high commission. That's all.
