Members of the public with information on corruption activity are urged to lodge a report directly to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) instead of posting about it on their social networking sites.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Mustafar Ali said this was to prevent disappearance of evidence during investigation and to ensure that the information was valid.

"Many may hesitate to lodge a report to the authority because of some threats, but we have several laws, such as the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 and the Witness Protection Act 2009, that protect them," he told reporters today.

 

Mustafar said those who spread false information on corruption would also face legal action under the Communication and Multimedia Commission Act and the Penal Code.
