Perak PAS today questioned the state government's continuous degazetting of Malay reserve land in Lumut, up until the point where the area has lost its "identity" as a tourist destination.

 

PAS Perak youth chief Raja Ahmad Iskandar Raja Yaacob said in a statement today that the cancellation of reserve land status in Teluk Senangin and Teluk Rabiah meant that the forest area is in jeopardy, causing imbalanced development.

 

"We have grave doubts on the frequent cancellation of Malay reserve land which is being done by the state government under the name of development, tourism or industry," he said.

 

"This will erode Manjung district's entity as a beautiful natural location which attracts plenty of tourists," he added.

 

Raja Ahmad ( right ) is raising the issue now more than a year after 14.67 acres of land in Teluk Senangin was degazetted as Malay reserve land in March last year.

 

He also pointed out that the state government had cancelled Malay reserve land status twice before in the same area- 89.93 hectares in 2004 and 163 hectares in Teluk Rabiah back in 1989.

 

Raja Ahmad demanded that the state government explain the need behind the degazetting of Malay reserve land.

 

He also said that the Perak PAS youth would seek a meeting with Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir to obtain an explanation and relay their concerns regarding the situation.
