A woman was today sentenced to seven months jail after pleading guilty to stealing a mobile phone belonging to an African tourist and failing to produce an identity card, last week.

Magistrate Ashraf Rezal Abdul Manan sentenced Samsiah Md Isa, 30, to six months jail for theft and one month jail for the offence of failing to produce her identity card.

The court ordered the sentences to run consecutively starting from the date of her arrest on July 4.

The accused, who was jobless, stole the mobile phone belonging to Mohamed Sorie Kargbo (age not stated) in Jalan Tun HS Lee in Kuala Lumpur at 4am on July 4.

According to the facts of the case, Samsiah was captured by the complainant prior to being handed over to the police and an inspection found a cell phone in the pocket of the accused.

In the same court, a taxi driver pleaded not guilty to a charge of injuring his wife using a piece of broken glass last month.

Abdul Aziz Isa, 58, was charged with causing hurt to Kustina Aziz, 49, in a unit at Flat Sri Kelantan, Jalan Sentul Pasar, here at 6.45pm on June 27.

The accused, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon which carries a jail sentence of up to three years or fine or whipping or any of the two punishment, if found guilty.

Magistrate Ashraf Rezal set July 16 for re-mention of the case.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ooi Chean Ling.
