Umno Youth chief held over 'flying watermelons'

        

Aries46: It is a Ramadan bazaar, a forerunner to the Hari Raya festivities.

If some poor traders cannot afford to pay the plot fee, why can't the Umno Youth people make an advance for them instead of causing mischief and inconvenience to the traders and their customers?

 

What is this plot fee compared to the millions being amassed by the powers-that-be under various guises? Why harass and discourage the poor from doing business and being self-dependent in the name of plot fee, enforcement, raids, seizure and so forth?

 

The Kangar Municipal Council (MPK) ought to be ashamed of itself to resort to grabbing the goods of traders merely on account of non-payment of plot fee. After all, what can they do with the snatched watermelons, which are a perishable item, other than to eat it themselves?

 

In this instance, Perlis Umno Youth chief Syed Atif Syed Abu Bakar was right to obstruct the enforcement officers as the seizure was done in bad faith.

 

Casey919: Is this a sign of a 2014 riot between the 'haves' and the 'have-nots' . The 1969 riot is almost 50 years ago and less than 10 percent of the population is old enough to know what it was.

 

Negarawan: This Ramadan bazaar fracas showcases and affirms three things about Umno:

 

1) Umno uses violent and gangster tactics to deal with anyone who opposes it.

 

2) Umno has created two classes of Malays through its New Economic Policy (NEP) i.e. a smaller group of corrupted "haves" and a larger group of sidelined "have-nots".

 

3) The "haves" are behaving like lords of the land, and there is now a growing backlash from the "have-nots" who are gradually realising the ruse of Umno.

 

JustAMalaysian: Being a politician (more so an elected state assemblyperson or member of parliament) does not mean you must help everybody when you are approached.

 

This is particularly so when the person asking for your help has committed or is committing an offence under the law.

 

You can ask the enforcement agency to show compassion or ask for leniency on the person's behalf. You cannot obstruct the enforcement personnel from carrying out their lawful and entrusted duty.

Being a politician does not mean seeking popularity. I hope you are reading this, Syed Atif.

Be like Dr M and walk the streets, ministers told

Dont Just Talk: Walking around the streets in Kuala Lumpur and feeding the poor are two different matters, veteran newsman A Kadir Jasin.

 

We have never heard of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s concern about feeding the poor in Kuala Lumpur, other than that of his cronies get the approved permits (APs) for import of foreign cars and tendering for mega projects.

 

Now that his family is a wealthy, can this man take out some of his billions to feed the poor in Kuala Lumpur, instead of showing his insincere concern over the development of Johor Baru Baru .
