Pakatan Rakyat today urged Malaysia to boycott the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) as a means to protest United States’ support of Israel attacking Palestinians.

According to PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli, Israel would not have dared to act so aggressively against Palestinians without US permission.

"TPPA is important for both countries. We hope the administration of President Barack Obama gets the signal and stop supporting Israel's actions," Rafizi (right) told reporters in Petaling Jaya, after a Pakatan Rakyat secretariat council meeting today.

The Pandan MP, said that Najib's administration can do more to push Obama's government to intervene.

"He claims to have a special relationship with the Obama administration. He can use their close ties to bring this issue up," Rafizi said, challenging Najib.

Pakatan also wants a special Parliamentant sitting to debate the attack on Palestine and for Malaysia to recall its envoy in Washington.

“A special sitting of Parliament should be held in order to discuss the attacks on Palestine, carried out since January 2009, to hear out the people’s views on the issue."

Death toll rises

At least 172 Palestinians, most of them civilians, were been killed in Israel's Gaza offensive which enters its seventh day today.

 

The violence was to retaliate against the killing of three Jewish students last month, according to a Reuters report.

No deaths have been reported on the Israeli side.

Israel says it has struck more than 750 targets in an offensive intended to halt persistent rocket fire at its own civilian population.

The Hamas assault reportedly escalated after Israeli forces arrested hundreds of Hamas activists in the occupied West Bank following the abduction of the Jewish teenagers.

A Palestinian teenager was also abducted and torced to death in what is believed to be a revenge killing by Israeli civilians.

Malaysia had immediately condemned the attack by Israel against Muslims in Palestine, whilst promising aid.

Malaysia is also among 14 nations negotiating the TPPA, which some argue could lead to costlier medications among other.
