MIC is still discussion over the Registrar of Societies' (ROS) threat to deregister the party's Kota Raja division following alleged irregularitie in the appointment of its new chief.

As such, the party is not yet prepared to issue a statement on the matter, says MIC secretary-general Prakash Rao ( right ).

"I still need to discuss with my top people (leadership), when there is something I will inform," he said when contacted.

Prakash had last Saturday said he would weigh in on the matter today.

Last week, Malaysiakini reported that the ROS has threatened to deregister the Kota Raja MIC division after it appointed a new chief without going through fresh polls.

The appointment of V Sunderaraju came about after the division's incumbent S Sandiranshegran was found to be bankrupt.

According to ROS' letter to the division dated July 7, sighted by Malaysiakini, it said Sunderaraju’s appointment was in violation of section 18B(2) of the Societies Act 1966.

Section 18B(2) of the Societies Act 1966 requires a political party to hold fresh election when its office bearer is disqualified from holding the post.

"The ROS intends to terminate the registration of this organisaton after Aug 6 unless the registrar is provided with a satisfactory reason why the registration should not be cancelled," the letter reads.

Sandiranshegran was in 2013 elected as Kota Raja MIC division chief but had immediately generated controversy when it was discovered he was bankrupt.
