DAP: Heads must roll over latest Sabah intrusion

           

Imanust Nais Yalam: From the 2014 budget report - the government will allocate a sum of RM8.8 billion to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and RM13.2 billion to the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to reduce crime and enhance military preparedness.

 

In addition, the government will continue to enhance national security of our territorial waters and borders by strengthening surveillance and upgrading defence equipment.

 

This includes the purchase of six offshore patrol vessels; four cargo aircraft and support equipment; as well as armoured vehicles with an allocation of RM2.4 billion.

 

Has crime reduced? Military preparedness enhanced? Territorial waters and borders more secure? Surveillance strengthened?

 

A Voice From The Wilderness: If one looks at the track record of Umno-BN follies, misdeeds and corruption, there would be no more heads to roll in this bankrupt Umno administration.

 

GMK: Heads must roll? Not in Malaysia. In Malaysia, they will give them a nice bonus.

 

Doc: As long as Sabahans keep voting for BN, I guess they will need to live with this Sabah militant problem permanently.

 

Umno-BN will just keep sweeping this problem under their carpet just like they did with the Sabah Project IC problem, the corruption scandal implicating the Sabah CM and the poor economic state Sabah is in.

Anticonmen: The root of the problem is inequitable distribution of the country's wealth. The amount siphoned off or stolen at the top is so much that the middle and poorer strata of society simply cannot survive.

 

As a simple analogy, say, in a family of three children, if the father uses all the money for himself and his enjoyment, can the children, especially the weaker ones, survive?

 

Clearwater: Contrary to writer Adam Reza's contention, a top down government is not necessarily a bad thing if the officials have the people's interest at heart and if the same officials use more common sense and less arrogance. It would help if they possess some emotional intelligence.

 

CucuMalaysia: These politicians have glued themselves to pedestals so high that they have difficulty 'reaching down' to the rakyat for consensus on important and relevant issues affecting the latter.

 

Life is also so comfortable up there that they either don't know or don't want to know how the rakyat are making ends meet.

But unfortunately, that is not to be. Umno and BN have been around for far too long. It's decayed beyond redemption.

 

The Kuomingtan (KMT) of Taiwan, which ruled the country with a dictatorial-style government and widespread mismanagement over a period of five decades was voted out in 2000 and replaced by the Democratic Progressive Party lead by Chen Shui-bian.

 

However, a transformed KMT recaptured the right to government in 2008. Meanwhile here, after almost more than six decades in power and unchallenged mismanagement, abuse and corruption is ruining the country.

 

Sloganeering by crooked politicians betrays the working man, while those in power are pocketing the profits and treating the people like sheep.

 

The people and Umno can no longer be in agreement as regards to the definitions of liberty, equity and democracy.

 

What we're witnessing in the country now is a phenomenon where the legacy of former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's doctrine of government has reached a critical point; and the aftermath of the failed system is beginning to rear its ugly head and is breaking down.

 

It has built up to the extent that it can no longer explain nor overcome the challenges that we're facing as a nation.

 

In other words, we're now at the threshold of a major paradigm shift - good vs evil; truth vs lie; liberty vs tyranny; liberalism vs bigotry; morality vs corruption - where a new national view within the context of a globalised world must prevail.

 

Senior: Top down? It's more like Umno Baru first.
