Prime Minister's wife Rosmah Mansor has pleaded to terrorists who have abducted police constable Zakia Aleip from Pulau Mabul, to quickly release him for the sake of his family.

 

She urged the kidnappers to consider the feelings of Zakia's family, his four-month-old son and wife, who are worried sick about him.

 

"As a wife and mother, I urge them to think about the feelings of the victim's family. In this holy month, please return him to the family," she was quoted saying by Berita Harian , at a ceremony to honour families of Lahad Datu war heroes and and families of MH370 passengers in Putrajaya today.

 

Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar ( right ) had said Zakia, 26, had contacted his wife, Sharifah Erna Berson last night to inform her that he was safe but in the custody of his captors.

 

The marine policeman was abducted from Mabul Water Bungalows Resort in an ambush attack last Saturday, said to be carried out for revenge.

One of Zakia’s colleagues, Corporal Abul Rajah Jamuan, 32, was killed when eight men intruded on the island resort at 11.10pm.

 

Turned away

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini reporters were turned away from covering the Rosmah giveaway event at the prime minister's official residence Sri Perdana, along with a few others, including those from Nanyang Siang Pau and the Malaysian Insider .

 

Police said that only shortlisted media were allowed to cover the event.

 

According to Berita Harian , the event saw Rosmah handing out cash on behalf of the charity and welfare body of minister and deputy minister's wives, Bakti.

Bernama reported that Rosmah, the president of Bakti, also urged Zakia's wife and all Malaysians to pray for Zakia's safe return to enable him to celebrate the upcoming Aidilfitri with his family.

 

The widows of Lahad Datu warriors were given RM5,000 each; the same amount was also handed out to families of crew members on MH370, while RM20,000 was handed out to each family of the two army officers killed in a recent armoured vehicle accident in Perak.

The contributions amounted to RM290,000.

 
Meanwhile, the next of kin of the crew of MH370 also made two demands to Rosmah in a private meeting after the ceremony. 
 
Bernama reported that they wanted Rosmah to not disclose the financial assistance given to them, for security reasons.

They also wanted all movies on the incident not be screened as it touched their sensitivities because the truth about the missing airliner was still not known.
