YOURSAY ‘No incident in last few demos, so why is Gerakan so afraid?

 

Don't start street rallies again, Ambiga told

ACR: Electoral reform group Bersih is a movement of the people like the People’s Power Revolution, or Edsa Revolution, in the Philippines which saw one million people on the street.

 

In countries where there is rule of law, the police maintain order and not take an adversarial position against those rallying. Idiots like Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang cannot see this.

 

Can Tan assure us Umno's friends like Malay rights group Perkasa and Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma), Jalur Tiga movement (Jati), Armed Forces Veterans Association (PVTM) club do not ever again do butt dances , carrying cow heads and other such nonsense again?

 

Those acts are provocative, not marches or rallies.

 

Anonymous_1Ingrate: Street protest is guaranteed by the federal constitution and is a regular feature of democracy.

 

The decision to demonstrate much depends on the government, especially whether if it responds to the people's aspiration.

 

In this instance, we do not want the Umno government to play up racial and religious issues or use the draconian sedition law selectively to cripple the opposition and to divide us as well as create tension in this country.

 

It is a shame a former great party like Gerakan should join such disgrace NGOs like Perkasa and Isma in singing the same tune. Negaru-Ku shall be bigger than Bersih simply because the rakyat are tired of the Umno government.

 

Versey: Who is Tan to tell Negara-Ku co-founder S Ambiga what to do? Ambiga is right to say that national laureate A Samad Said would win hands down over former DAP vice-chairperson Tunku Abdul Aziz Rahman.

 

As the saying goes "birds of the feather flock together", Tan can look up to whoever he likes, but Pak Samad is venerated by all the right-thinking Malaysians.

 

Anonymous #49881650: Freedom of expression is a basic democratic right and there was no untoward incident in the last few demonstrations, so why is Gerakan so afraid? Why should we vote for a party that is trying to suppress freedom of expression?

Tan should be scared of what Umno-sponsored extremism may raise up. See the wild and hateful statements by NGOs linked to the group Tan calls coalition partners.

 

Don't blame PAS which isn't grabbing bibles and scorning non-Malays and non-Muslims. PAS is building bridges and fighting for justice through its leaders such as Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Yusof and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.

 

Tan is working hand in glove with Isma to attack and demonise Ambiga, but she is capable of showing up Tan's immaturity and spinelessness.

The riot police had in fact stormed and chased the crowd unprovoked and cornered them into tight spaces before the crowd had to push back to get out. See the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) inquiry report .

 

Jacky: I think Tan has a valid point here. No one should take peace for granted in our country.

 

Gobbie: Frankly, a person of Ambiga stature need not respond to Tan. What has he ever achieved since coming into politics besides barking up the wrong tree and harping on irrelevant issues whilst blatantly ignoring the many scandals that are destroying the country?

 

Tan is just desperately clinging on to an irrelevant political life.

 

Wrath of Altantuya: Tan, you only mention injuries to police officers in Bersih 2012. What about injuries suffered by journalists and innocent protesters? Be fair to all. You've had your five minutes of fame.                    

 

Apa Ini?: Tan is a complete greenhorn who obviously knew nothing of the inspiration Bersih has been for hundreds of thousands of Malaysians.

 

If this empty vessel is the best Gerakan has to offer, Umno is welcome to have him. Ambiga shouldn't bother to dignify him with a second of her precious time.

To me, it is clear as daylight. People like Tan, the Isma and Perkasa extremists see Negara-Ku as the voice of reason, taking our nation along the path of greater fairness and justice for all.

 

It is something that will put extremists and racists out of business.
