Najib wants emergency sitting over MH17
Swipenter: The MH370 and MH17 tragedies were not totally unavoidable incidents. Parliament should address why we fail so miserably in taking steps to avoid them.
In the MH370 tragedy, the RMAF (Royal Malaysian Air Force) failed in its duty to intercept the "friendly aircraft".
In the MH17 tragedy, MAS (Malaysia Airlines) and the Transport Ministry used the excuse that other airlines were also using the air space right in the middle of a war zone but there are other airlines that took proactive actions to ensure the safety of their passengers by avoiding the route.
This shows the complacency of MAS. We also can't dismiss that MAS is trying to save cost.
It looks like the Russians and the pro-Russian separatists are the culprits at the moment. But closer to home, inaction or even tacit support given to extremists out to fan racial and religious intolerance can also lead to another tragedy.
Without Russian supporting the separatists, they won’t be able to launch their war and neither can the extreme rightwing NGOs act with impunity in Bolehland.
Appum: This unfortunate tragedy has caused much suffering to the families of those who died on MH17.
We should condemn the people who did this and the Russian government (for supporting them) to the fullest extent. These rebels are like gangsters, preventing the investigators from going to the crash site.
Here at home, we have Perkasa, Isma, Malay and Muslim NGOs, which were so brave in slaughtering chicken and smearing blood over a comedy video done by a parliamentarian.
I would think such people would organise a 10,000 people rally in front of the Russian Embassy to show their anger and even slaughter goats and cows. Where are they now?
CQ Muar: How touching to see PM Najib Razak spring into action and in ernest over MH17 disaster. He even sought an emergency parliamentary sitting over the crisis, and appeared solemn and 'caring'.
If only he had shown the same concern and emotion in regards to all those past issues and criminal activities, which are still unresolved, then our perception towards Najib would be different.
We might be endeared, praise and pray for his success.
RKR: Najib, you keep saying we won't point fingers until the facts are verified. The United States has credible evidence to state that the plane was shot down and that the missile came from the separatist group.
What additional intelligence do you have at your disposal to verify these facts that US don’t? Even your Esscom (Eastern Sabah Security Command) cannot function properly. I'm more inclined to believe President Barack Obama than you on this.
Onyourtoes: It wasn’t the missile that knocked down MH17 over Ukraine. It was the unnecessary war perpetrated by rogue leaders with false sense of patriotism and ill-conceived nationalism that killed those people.
Why can’t Russia leave Ukraine alone? Why the need to try to “protect” ethnic Russians in Ukraine - for what and against whom? These are baloney to say the least.
I guess the old Soviet mentality will never die. It must dominate its neighbours, exert its sphere of influence, and bully others into submission. You have already taken the whole of Crimea, what else do you want?
Grow up Russia; I don’t care who have pulled the trigger that shot down MH17, but you are responsible, period. You have the power to start the war, you too have the power to stop it. Don’t you ever deny that.
Kim Quek: Mr Prime Minister, while you are calling for an emergency parliamentary session on MH17, can you explain why you doggedly and repeatedly refused to allow the same for MH370, which was a national disaster that needed such a session many times more than the current one?
Since you have shown such contempt for parliament on the previous occasion, why are you rushing to parliament this time?
Abasir: Najib has finally found it in himself to act like a prime minister - something he could have done earlier when the MH370 saga unfolded.
Then however, he chose to play partisan politics, brief only BN MPs and leave out all others elected by the people. Now, it appears that he has learned something - that at times like this there is only Malaysia and not Umno, DAP, PKR, PAS etc.
Let's hope this is not a fleeting moment of clarity before he reverts to his usual shortsighted, self-centred and spineless self.
Kawak: The PM calling Malaysians of all religions to unite in prayer is commendable. But he should have emphasised this call and take actions to ensure religious harmony among Malaysians at all times.
This would sound only rhetoric and empty if he made this call during this unfortunate incident. He should have rebuke those racists and religious bigots of several 'NGOs' like Perkasa and Isma.
Yours and My Malaysia: How can a country have two major airline mishaps within four months? It is all bad karma.
Pakatan Rakyat should start looking at positive things BN is doing and more importantly, BN has to showcase the good things Pakatan is talking about.
We need positive vibes. Desperately.
