The evening of this Sunday has been set to sight the Syawal new moon to determine the date of Aidilfitri, the office of the keeper of the rulers' seal announced today.

 

It said in a statement that the conference of rulers had consented to setting the date for Aidilfitri based on the 'rukyah' method of sighting the new moon and the 'hisab' calculation based on mathematics and astronomy.

 

The keeper of the rulers' seal will announce the date for Aidilfitri over radio and television that night, it said.

 

The office said the relevant committees would take up positions to sight the new moon in Pontian Kecil, Johor; the Falak Al-Khawarizmi complex, Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Malacca; Telok Kemang, Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan,  Bukit Melawati, Kuala Selangor, Selangor; Bukit Jugra, Banting, Kuala Langat, Selangor Observatory, Sabak Bernam, Selangor; Pasir Panjang Beach, Mukim Pengkalan Baru, Manjong District, Perak; Sheikh Tahir Astronomy Centre, Pantai Aceh, Penang.

 

Kampung Pulau Sayak, Kuala Muda, Pemandangan Indah, Pulau Langkawi and Alor Setar Tower in Kedah; Bukit Besar Kuala Terengganu; Bukit Geliga, Kemaman; Pulau Perhentian, Besut, Kusza Observatory, Mukim Merang, Setiu in Terengganu; Bukit Peraksi, Pasir Puteh, Bukit Kampong Tembeling, Mukim Manjur, Olak Jeram District, Kuala Krai, SEDC Building Tower, Jalan Tengku Putera Semerak, Kota Baharu in Kelantan.
