Quit the party if serious, Sarawak DAP told
If Sarawak DAP is serious about opposing the implementation of hudud in Kelantan, it should not quit the Sarawak chapter of Pakatan Rakyat, said Gerakan Youth.
If Sarawak DAP is serious about opposing the implementation of hudud in Kelantan, it should not quit the Sarawak chapter of Pakatan Rakyat, said Gerakan Youth.
Instead, youth chief Tan Keng Liang ( left ) said Sarawak DAP should just quit DAP itself as the central leadership has no plans to censure PAS for its hudud aspirations.
“When PAS announced their intention early this year to implement hudud laws in Kelantan, DAP national leadership was still adamant to remain in Pakatan and thus, partnering PAS.
“If Sarawak DAP is sincere in giving pressure to DAP national leadership not to support PAS in implementing hudud in Kelantan, Sarawak DAP should give an ultimatum to quit DAP if PAS implements hudud in Kelantan,” he said in a statement.
Otherwise, he said the statement by Sarawak DAP was just an “empty threat”, which is likely to be ignored by PAS.
Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen yesterday said that Sarawak DAP will no longer participate in Pakatan or PAS events, as long as PAS insists to implement hudud in Kelantan.
Chong said the state chapter had informed the DAP national leadership of its resolution.
‘A hoax’
Like Tan, MCA publicity chairperson Chai Kim Sen, too, was not convinced.
He said that the “outburst” is “nothing but a hoax” as DAP central leadership still stands by PAS.
“Apparently, DAP’s hunger of power and their desire to take over the federal government has caused them to ignore the people’s welfare, as they are still working together with PAS,” Chai ( left ) said in a separate statement.
He also challenged DAP’s central leadership to follow Chong’s lead and not continue with its wishy-washy stand on the matter.
DAP has been openly against the implementation of the hudud, arguing that it is against the Federal Constitution.
However, Pakatan parties have agreed that all parties are free to pursue their own agendas, while working together on common goals through the common policy framework.
