The curfew order enforced in the east coast of Sabah will be extended to ensure safety of the residents, besides to prevent any possible intrusion incidents.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said, although the curfew order in Sabah would expire on Aug 2, the police would extend the period for public safety.

"I'm looking at the situation in Sabah waters .. In general, from my own review, we (the police) should extend the curfew.

"Police have also received encouraging feedback from residents in the coastal areas. I hope they will always adhere to the regulations stipulated for the areas," he told reporters after the launch of new police departments in Kuala Lumpur today.

Last Saturday, Sabah police commissioner Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman declared a curfew from Tanjung Pundaras in Sandakan to Tawau jetty, until Aug 2.
