Balik Pulau Member of Parliament Dr Hilmi Yahaya did not dismiss the possibility of Pakatan Rakyat breaking-up over the Selangor menteri besar crisis.

He said there were already signs of a split within PAS when a majority of the party members expressed support for Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to stay on as menteri besar while there were some who were not in favour of the majority's decision.

The most apparent difference in opinion of PAS leaders emerged when PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang expressed his support for Khalid ( right, in picture ) to remain as menteri besar but his deputy Mat Sabtu and the party's Information chief Mahfuz Omar openly supported a decision made by the Pakatan presidential council to replace Khalid.

"There is a possibility of a split. In politics nothing is impossible and anything can happen. We will wait and see," said Hilmi who is also the deputy health minister after a Hari Raya Aidilfitri, dinner last night.

Hilmi was commenting on concerns expressed by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng that the Selangor menteri besar crisis may lead to a split in the opposition pact.

Lim was reported to have said, when a decision made by the Pakatan presidential council is negated by one party within Pakatan, the pact’s credibility and survival comes under threat.

Meanwhile, the Hari Raya Aidilfitri dinner held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Balik Pulau was attended by the Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas and his wife Majimor Shariff.

The dinner, held on a moderate scale as a mark of respect for the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 tragedy in Ukraine on July 17, was also attended by more than 10,000 people.
