The recent rain in the Sungai Sarawak Kiri water catchment areas has brought some respite to the water supply situation in Kuching.  

However, the rise in the river level was not significant and thus the Kuching Water Board’s (KWB) Drought Contingency Plan is still in place.

“We are continuing with the cloud seeding efforts to create precipitation in the catchment areas,” said KWB in a statement today.

KWB urged consumers to continue to conserve and use water sparingly and to give full coooperation to KWB to ensure continuous supply until the raw water level improves.

Consumers are also requested to promptly call the KWB call centre at 082-222333 or text message 019-88666650 on any leaking or burst pipes.

The statement said consumers on higher ground might continue to experience lower water pressure, and the affected consumers were requested to contact the KWB call centre for delivery of treated water by water tankers.

“However if there is no further improvement in the raw material level, we may need to impose water rationing.  

“Should the need for water rationing arise, consumers shall be notified via major newsapaers and radio stations,” the statement added.

 

The statement also said that those areas in Bau, Asajaya and Puncak Borneo, which were getting their water supplies from KWB but under the jurisdiction of Kuching JKR and Samarahan JKR would continue to only receive water supply from 8pm to 5am the following day.

Affected consumers in those areas could contact the Kuching JKR at 082-203497/082-203498 and Samarahan JKR at 082-672800 for assistance.
