The Malacca government has no intention of relocating Sekolah Menengah Tinggi Melaka founded in 1826 from within the Unesco heritage site of the city where it stands, Chief Minister Idris Haron said today.
“We will not arbitrarily demolish the building. In fact, we have strict rules pertaining to renovation of the building, such as using paint of a certain standard,” he told reporters after chairing a weekly meeting of the state executive council in Malaccca.
The school hit the news after reports emerged that there was a plan to relocate it to make way for development of the current site.
Idris also said that the state government would review the salary grades of state government staff to ensure that their pay was commensurate with the heavier burden of work they had to shoulder.
“We will take three months to carry out the review,” he said.
