Faced with the  impending dry season, the Selangor government today said that car wash centres can only operate from 12pm to 6pm.

The move, effective immediately, comes amid rising fears over the likelihood of another round of water rationing.

“The Selangor government is trying to ensure that there is enough water and it lasts till the El Nino phenomenon passes” the Menteri Besar's office said in a statement today.

The government has also instructed a crackdown on all unlicensed car wash centres.

It added that other measures taken in mitigating the current situation include reducing the release of water from the Sungai Selangor and Sungai Tinggi dams, pumping water from ponds into the rivers and cloud seeding.

It also said that water rationing will carried out as a “last resort” if all these other measures fail

The state government has come under fire for not implementing water rationing despite the Sungai Selangor dam level having dropped to 32.48 percent.

Klang Valley residents endured several months of water rationing starting February 2014, despite heavy rains in Selangor, due to low rainfall in catchment areas.
