Boycott, violence against McD’s miss real target

YOURSAY ‘What’s the connection between McDonald’s and Israel?’

After Gaza protest, McD's fears for safety of staff

Dalvik: While I’m certainly against the cruelty happening in the Middle East, I am also against the boycott action targeted at local businesses. Boycotting McDonald’s Malaysia (McD’s), for example, would only hurt the local economy.

And for those who went to the extent of threatening/hurting the life of McD’s employees - what gave them the right to do so and didn’t that tarnish the religion?

NuckinFuts: Shouldn’t similar insults be hurled at our PM and his department for clearly having paid millions of dollars to allegedly Israeli-linked PR consultants, Apco, for its services?

Malaysians and BN already have blood in their hands. Violence against innocent McD’s staff only stinks of hypocrisy.

Hang Babeuf: Can someone please tell me: what’s the connection between McDonald’s and Israel?

Ray Kroc, the company founder, was a southern Californian Christian. Decidedly non-Israeli.

These protestors are simply delusional. They are fighting a figment of their own overheated, distorted and ridiculous imagination.

Krissman: McDonald’s is a publicly traded company. The president and CEO of McDonald’s is an African American . Anyone can buy or sell shares of McDonald’s.

What in the name of God are these guys trying to accomplish with the boycott, other than putting some fellow Malaysians out of work? Malaysian investors are next on the list of people who are going to suffer.

Anonymous #039163649: I don't blame the people for getting angry at McD’s. The government is responsible for working up people’s anger towards the conflict.

Taking a moral stand against Israeli aggression is fine, but overdoing it results in the mob violence on our streets. These mobs feel that they have government sanction.

We have a minister who cut of his HSBC card in public, so what do you expect ordinary kampung folks do if you set such an example?

Negarawan: This is a clear example that Muslims are threatening their own religion, not anyone else, although the extremists like PAS/Umno/Perkasa/Isma/Jati often put the blame on others, without any proof.

Hurting or hurling abuses against these innocent employees and damaging properties are crimes punishable by law.

People like former PM Mahathir Mohamad and Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Ismail Sabri should be ashamed of themselves for inflaming Muslims, resulting in irrational behaviour like this.

Fair Play: McDonald’s employs 12,000 thousand workers in their 500 outlets nationwide. And 85 percent are Muslim Malaysians. So, is it a case of cutting one's nose to spite one's face?

And now it is confirmed that Muslim Malaysians are depriving Muslim Malaysians of their livelihood. Who are the extremists now?

The way I see it, it's the ultimate case of thinking with one's heart instead of with one's head.

Louis: If McDonald's is closed down in the country, the Israelis would not suffer a bit. It is the poor Malaysians, mostly Muslims, who are going to suffer.

If truly those folks wanted to help the Gazans, use the energy to go and collect money or clothes or even food and send them to Gaza.

TehTarik: Why only stop at McDonald’s and Starbucks? If you want to boycott, then boycott all Jewish-owned firms.

First, stop using Google and Facebook. Then stop watching any movie produced by Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, MGM, Universal Studios, Fox and Columbia.

Also stop patronising Baskin Robbins, Haagen Dazs and Dunkin Donuts. Stop buying from Marks and Spencers, Selfridges, Tesco, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, DKNY, Calvin Klein, Gap and Levi Strauss.

No community has produced as many Nobel Prize winners as the Jews. Many of the top scientists and doctors in the world are Jews. Many of the greatest inventions and discoveries have been made by Jews.

Let’s not stigmatise the entire Jewish race for the follies of the Israeli leadership.

Anonymous #44199885: Indeed, if these people take the foolish position that all Jews are to be held culpable for the death in Gaza, then they should just shut down our entire banking system and the stock exchange as Jewish-owned enterprises control the financial markets worldwide.

If you want to do good, there are proper ways to channel your righteous anger and that is by collecting funds, clothes, food and medicine to help the Gazans or even joining the volunteer corps to help them.

What good is it to hurl insults, threaten Malaysians and damage their property? How are you helping the Gazans by doing that? These are shallow people - clever at violence but not charity.

Cantabrigian: In principle, boycott is an economic choice; you can campaign or be vocal about your stance but it does not give you license to insult people, threaten their safety or vandalise properties.

As much as you loathe the Zionist regime, stop being an oppressor yourself or else, you may end up becoming the person that you hate.
