State BN chief Teng Chang Yeow has refuted claims that the Penang government has no jurisdiction over the ‘taman negara’ (national park) in Teluk Bahang, where a nudist sports event was held in May.

 

Teng claims that the Penang government has authority over the national park, and that Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's remark that the state was powerless over such incidences are untrue.

 

"It just shows his ignorance and arrogance. It's also a irresponsible remark," Teng told Malaysiakini .

 

Teng said the 1980 National Parks Act gives the state government "a big say" over the running and control over the park, which is under the purview of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

 

He added that Penangites stand to lose their rights as the Pakatan Rakyat government is "ignorant of their jurisdictions, authority and power."

 

"The rights and well-being of the people of Penang are being greatly compromised due to the irresponsible, ignorance and arrogance of the Pakatan state government," he said.

 

"The blaming game is the characteristic of the Pakatan state government."

 

Music teacher quizzed

 

Police are on the look-out for the 17, including seven Malaysians, who joined the Penang Nudist Sports Game 2014 in Teluk Kampi which allegedly took place on May 31.

 

The force has picked up a female music teacher, who is in her 30s, to assist the police in their probe.

 

T he event grabbed national attention, including pro-Umno bloggers who blamed it on the DAP-led government, when a five-minute video clip of the event was uploaded on Vimeo.

 

Lim said the park management is under the federal government, pointing out that it is under the Environment Ministry's jurisdiction.

 

He also insisted that neither the state government nor the local council would approve such an activity.
