Independent MB vs Pakatan state assembly

YOURSAY ‘The MB must go if he does not have the backing of the House.’

Khalid: Sultan consented for me to stay on

Cantabrigian: Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is legally correct and the sultan has acted smartly by not being dragged into this mud.

Until and unless the Selangor state assembly calls for a sitting and obtains majority support on a vote of no confidence against him, he is the authorised MB of Selangor.

PKR and DAP are too afraid to call for such a motion because once it is called, the combined votes of PAS and Umno will reconfirm Khalid's tenure as MB.

This is the law of Selangor and every Selangorian should abide by this, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. The only way to avoid this in future is to amend the state constitution, which requires a two-thirds majority.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has always been the proponent of getting MPs to switch sides in order to topple BN but now his plan has backfired. Umno is sitting quietly rubbing their hands in glee watching Pakatan Rakyat implode from within due to their own 'brilliant' scheme.

Karma perhaps? But wait, this drama could go even further. Khalid's legal suit against PKR for unlawful termination may even raise bigger issues, opening doors for Registrar of Societies to screw PKR even more. Get the popcorn ready, folks.

Anonymous_1397711138: What Khalid said is an empty statement. He advised the sultan that he still commands the support of the majority.

Based on his advice, the sultan of course said he could continue to be the MB. But does he really have the majority support? Let's wait and see.

Lamborghini: Khalid, please have some dignity. You became MB because of your party, not through the sultan. If your party doesn't want you anymore, go graciously and don't act like a spoilt kid and run to the sultan.

Act like a man with dignity and self-respect and not cling on to power when it is time to go.

Mushiro: Khalid is all confused. First he insisted he is still in PKR as the expulsion is flawed. Now he says he is an independent MB. Then he insisted that he has the majority support of the state assembly. What is next?

Sabahan: Total nonsense. The MB must command the support of the majority of the state assemblymen. Otherwise, anyone, even a sole Independent, can be MB and he/she only needs the consent of the sultan. This makes a mockery of democracy.

MinahBulat: I am quite sure the palace will come out with a correction. That Khalid can remain as menteri besar of Selangor if he has the confidence and support of the Selangor state assembly.

I cannot envisage a situation that the sultan can possibly allow a menteri besar to remain if he does not have the backing of the House. How is he going to function?

Isana: Khalid has misled the sultan. He claims that he has got majority support but that was before he was sacked from PKR. Now he has to test his majority support by calling for an emergency sitting.

Otherwise another Adun with majority support (with proof) can go to the palace for the sultan’s endorsement.

Ksn: Khalid will have the majority to continue as the MB with votes from PAS, Umno and himself. What a shameless character this MB is.

Kang Kong King: The truth is as far as Khalid is concerned, he is a goner, whichever way. This will be his last few days as MB, this too will be last term for him as Adun (state assemblyperson) or MP.

He will not win again, whichever party that he may choose later. What a sad end for a capable man, but with an ego bigger than an elephant.

Fair Play: Between now and the PAS meeting on Aug 17, there will be a mad scramble for allegiance and horse-trading among PAS/PKR/DAP.

The true colours of PAS will finally be revealed. However, even with PAS support in the best case scenario, the next state assembly sitting would be held in November 2014.

In the meantime, Khalid can remove any exco member who doesn't play ball with him and install people who are loyal to him. No doubt all outstanding matters such as the Kidex project would be resolved before November.

Now, politicians can really learn from Khalid the real meaning of a corporate play - ruthless, focused and self-serving. Such a tragic end to the Pakatan coalition.

And for a new twist. Say, PAS supports Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and she then seeks an audience with the sultan to declare she has majority support (with evidence), what happens then? Would the sultan see her?

Changeagent: The central leadership of PKR must take collective responsibility for the fallout of this poorly executed Kajang Move.

It's amazing how they messed up so royally when they tried to turn friend into foe. I'm not defending Khalid's recalcitrant behaviour here, nor his questionable out-of-court settlement with Bank Islam.

But I'm suggesting that he might not have turned insubordinate or cantankerous had he been allowed to finish his second term as MB uninterrupted.

PKR should consider this as unintended consequences of treating the MB position as their own unquestioned entitlement and treating the Selangor voters' choice of MB with so much disdain.

Freethinker: PAS is the main saboteur of this. DAP had consented and every party has their own state to manage. Penan (DAP), Kelantan (PAS), Selangor (PKR).

PAS clearly does not need to be involved in this but to support the coalition decision for PKR which is managing the state. Clearly and surely, PAS would not like DAP or PKR meddling into PAS state affairs.

If PKR had decided to replace the MB, PAS should support and respect the decision of PKR. Now pray tell, a MB who does not have a party is answerable to who?

The MB’s position belongs to the party, not Khalid himself. Umno must be clapping their hands seeing Pakatan self-destruct through the very man they trusted.

Bruchaga: The next thing Khalid is going to do is to change the entire exco, replacing them with BN representatives.

This means the state assembly is ruled by Pakatan and the state government is independent with support of BN. What a mess this is.
