Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang today said DAP and PKR needed to prove that their state assemblypersons have lost confidence in Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim or it would merely be a hoax.

This comes after DAP and PKR yesterday disputed Abdul Khalid’s claim that he still commanded majority support in the state assembly.

DAP and PKR have pointed out they joint have 28 state assemblypersons, which make up half of the House, that have already decided they were not in support of Abdul Khalid.

“As such, Gerakan Youth hereby urges DAP and PKR to reveal the number and names of the state assemblypersons who had actually lost confidence towards Abdul Khalid.

 

“There is no reason for DAP and PKR to continue to hide the numbers and names, which is causing public confusion. They should substantiate their allegation unless it’s a hoax,” he said in a statement today.

Tan pointed out that the three exco members from DAP and PKR respectively are still serving under Abdul Khalid.

“Thus, it’s also doubtful whether all DAP and PKR state assemblypersons had actually lost confidence towards Abdul Khalid,” he said.

DAP and PKR have instructed their exco members to remain in the state government for now pending a resolution with PAS, which refused to back Abdul Khalid’s removal, being the sole dissenting member in Pakatan Rakyat.

Last Saturday, PKR expelled Abdul Khalid from the party for his refusal to resign as menteri besar.

PKR, which has found it difficult to work with Abdul Khalid, wants to replace him with party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Yesterday, Abdul Khalid obtained the Selangor sultan’s consent to stay on as menteri besar after claiming he still had majority support in the House.

Meanwhile, the Malay Businessmen and Industrialists Association of Malaysia, in a statement today, backed the embattled Abdul Khalid.

“I feel this political leadership issue causes problem to the state administration and indirectly affects businesspersons who depend on the government especially for contracts as they have to be in constant contact with government officers,” said its president, Moehamad Izat Emir.
