Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang pleaded to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim today to reconsider the party's decision to nominate only its president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as the new menteri besar of Selangor.

In a statement today, Tan ( left ) said PAS has not agreed to PKR's proposal to have Wan Azizah as the next menteri besar, and that PKR's "insistence" is causing the crisis in Selangor.

Malaysiakini previously reported that PAS might propose that PKR name another MB candidate apart from Wan Azizah before it endorses the MB change.

"Surely, there are other leaders in Pakatan who may be more qualified than Wan Azizah," he said.

"As the adviser of PKR and the de facto leader of Pakatan, Anwar should consider the interests of the people in Selangor and the impact on the state as result of the current crisis," Tan added.

In a separate statement, the Teoh Beng Hock Trust for Democracy called for an emergency sitting of the Selangor Legislative Assembly to determine if Pakatan Rakyat still commands a majority in the assembly.

"All political parties should respect Selangorians’ choice in the 13th general election and utilise the existing democratic institution to reconcile their differences," the TBH Trust said.

"The menteri besar should not shy away from the state assembly as the assembly is in fact the highest authority in a Westminster political system. All state executive councillors are responsible and answerable to state assembly," it added.

The trust also described current menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's move to sack five PKR and DAP executive councillors as tantamount to a "coup d'etat" on the state government.
