Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's allegations against opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim are baseless, said PKR legal and human rights bureau chief Latheefa Koya today.

"This claim is absurd and has no basis whatsoever. It arises from the sodomy allegation  fabricated by the Umno-BN regime against Anwar," she alleged in a brief statement.

"Anwar has filed appearance in court and will strongly defend this action," she added.

Referring to Pakatan Rakyat securing 51percent of the popular votes in the last general election, Latheefa said Malaysians had totally "rejected this vicious political conspiracy".

Last June, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, a former aide to Anwar, who is also PKR de facto leader, filed a RM50 million suit with the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The matter was brought up yesterday for case management .        

The Court of Appeal in February found Anwar guilty of sodomising his former aide at a Desa Damansara condominium unit on June 26, 2008, and sentenced him to five years' jail.

This overturned the 2012 decision of the High Court which acquitted Anwar of the charge.

The case is now pending an appeal by Anwar to have the conviction overturned while the prosecution is appealing for the Federal Court to have his five-year jail term enhanced.

In his suit, Saiful claimed that Anwar had tarnished his reputation and the opposition leader’s statements made him the subject of public scorn.

The former aide reiterated that he never lied about the sodomy incident as written in the police report and claimed that he suffered physical pain as result.

Saiful's lawyer Zamri Idrus said yesterday that the court had ordered Anwar to file a defence by Sept 3.

        

Similar to the first sodomy allegation, Anwar has claimed that Saiful’s allegation was part of a political conspiracy authored by his rivals.

However, BN leaders have denied this.
