If it’s not Kak Wan’s gender, then what is it?
YOURSAY ‘Mustafa, in being mysterious, adds oil to speculation.’
PAS: We reject Azizah, but not due to gender
Mushiro: PAS should state the reasons why they rejected Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and let the people decide if their reasons are valid.
If PAS rejected Azizah because she is Anwar's wife and hence considered this as nepotism, then PAS should not also support Abdul Hadi Awang's son-in-law, who was appointed by Khalid Ibrahim to hold a post in a Selangor government agency.
Wan Azizah has been in PKR and it's president since day one and that is already a good 14 years. She has struggled through the thick and thin in PKR and has stood up against Chandra Muzaffar, Zulkifli Nordin and the likes.
She has good leadership attributes - intelligent, sincere, honest, simple, willing to listen, patience, cool, decisive, good team player, a good wife and mother, not a hypocrite Muslim and many more. This is the best candidate that PKR has now.
Ferdtan: PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali has denied claims that PAS is rejecting PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as Selangor menteri besar because she is a woman. No?
Or is it as what Umno lawyer Mohd Haarizam Harun had claimed that menstrual cycle prevents Wan Azizah from becoming MB because she cannot attend religious events during that time of the month?
If you say she is not capable, then what is PAS’ standard for MB? Losing two states in Terengganu and Kedah - one of which controlled by your boss, Abdul Hadi Awang - is that ability?
Malaccan: Mustafa, in being mysterious, adds oil to speculation. If he has more noble reasons and didn't want to embarrass the PKR president, he should have done it before her name was forwarded, and not wait for it to be publicly announced.
If PAS find the PKR president is not worthy to be a MB, how is it going to work with her party? In any event, can PKR also reject PAS president, secretary-general and Kelantan MB but not because they are Umno's proxy, although they act that way?
The fact PAS must accept is the public perception of them is very low now, and getting worse by the day. It is not the fault of Wan Azizah, PKR or DAP. PAS hanged itself when it sided with the renegade MB and stood by doing nothing when its partners were ousted from the exco.
PAS is in the fight for its survival, even if it doesn't realise it yet except by a few of its enlightened MPs and state reps. And it risked all this for the roll of one dodgy dice, called Khalid Ibrahim.
James_3392: Whether Wan Azizah is a suitable candidate is none of PAS business. Being in Pakatan, they have to agree to PKR’s decision.
Was Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin a suitable MB candidate Perak? Was the late Azizan Abdul Razak, who spent more time in hospital than office, a suitable MB candidate for Kedah?
When the decision was made by PAS on both the above candidates, did DAP, PKR question PAS' decision?
Longjaafar: PAS is caught because it cannot say why Wan Azizah is not acceptable. It is the palace. But Anwar still insists, and therein lies the conflict. As simple as that.
Proarte: The simple fact is Azizah, Nurul Izzah and Anwar have been fighting on the Islamic terrain which PAS feels is its sole prerogative. So the Anwar family who also abuse Islam for political ends are 'competitors' for the Islamic vote bank.
That is why they rejected Anwar for PM at the last election and instead were courting Ku Li (Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah) of Umno. So it is not surprising PAS have rejected Wan Azizah now as they do not like her brand of inclusive Islam.
PAS, like Umno, survive on 'divide and rule', the typical modus operandi of fascists. Wan Azizah and Anwar would strongly be advised not to play the Islamic card anymore as that would be falling into another trap.
Pakatan will survive minus the PAS ulama faction only if it does not abuse Islam. Pakatan should stick to the constitution and reaffirm the secular nature of our governance as envisaged by the founding fathers of our nation.
We need to focus on commonalities and human rights. No more Islamic rhetoric to divide us further. Now is a time for healing.
Worried Sick: PAS, can you tell us how many male Selangor MBs have been investigated for corruption and how many convicted? Has Kak Wan ever been convicted for anything?
Are you afraid that if Kak Wan becomes MB of Selangor, nobody is going to get any shady deals? Is that why you are opposing her?
Myviews: Come on PAS, be honest and state your stand against Kak Wan. Assuming you are not against her gender (my gut feelings is that you are still against her gender), then the next reason I can think of is that you feel she might not have the experience and the capability to handle the job of the MB.
Haven't you heard of Corazon Aquino, the 11th president of the Philippines? She was a demure housewife when she was elected to that highest office in her country. After her retirement from office, she was and still is considered one of the finest presidents of that country.
Kak Wan may just turn out to be another Corazon. Clean and without political baggage, her lack of experience is not a problem.
Swipenter: PAS wants the MB’s post of Selangor for themselves. Offer it to them they would grab it faster than you can blink your eyes. Beware of their poor performance of the states where they held the MB’s post.
Judging from history, if the Selangor MB post was under PAS, Umno Baru-BN would most likely regain Selangor state government come GE14. Even Kelantan is not as safe as PAS made it out to be.
