The police have cautioned the public against disseminating false information via the social media, that a woman was raped and

her body dumped at a construction site near here yesterday.

Labuan police deputy chief DSP Douglas Nyeging Taong said in reality, the body in question was that of a 45-year-old man found at a workers' quarters.

He said the deceased was identified as Omar Balahuddin, a labourer.

"Initial police investigations revealed that Omar, who suffered from asthma, was last seen about four days ago, when he went to buy medicine," he told reporters Tuesday.

He warned those who disseminated false information via short messaging system and Facebook that they could be referred to the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission for further action.
