MCA continues to be on the offensive by slamming the DAP for its lack of concern over a ban on male spectators at a netball tournament in Kelantan next month.

Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie (right) said that DAP was too absorbed with the Selangor Menteri Besar crisis to bother on other important issues.

“With all attention focused on the Selangor Menteri Besar imbroglio, DAP has completely lost the plot of working as a check and balance against PAS’ obsession with gender segregation.” said Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie in a statement today.

She also slammed the move by the PAS-led Kelantan government as "ludicrous" as male viewers are still able to watch games involving female players via various technology.

“Banning male supporters at the netball (tournament) will fail to deter or prevent either gender from viewing sports participants of the opposite gender given the availability and easy access to the internet, television or movie broadcasts and mobile phone photography,” she said.

Ban TV and internet, too?

Wong, who is deputy minister of women, family and community development also said that the move does not serve the purpose of making Kelantan a sporting hub.

“How will Kelantan ever be developed into a hub for regional or international sporting event given PAS’ other obsession of policing attire even for sports meets?” she queried.

Kelantan will hold a netball tournament next month, which is only open to female spectators. Players must also wear long-sleeve shirts and loose-fitting track pants.

Responding to MCA’s earlier criticism , the state government noted that this is not the first time it is imposing such rules on a sports tournament and the move had previously received positive feedback.

It added that as organiser of the tournament, which is open to the 14 parliamentary constituencies of Kelantan, the state has the right to impose regulations.
