Umno continues to launch salvos on PAS for supporting PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to be the next Selangor menteri besar.
The latest bombardment came from Umno supreme council member Irmohizam Ibrahim who likened the Islamic party to a "chameleon which changes colour out of fear when threatened".
He said this is the reason why PAS kept changing course, from championing the establishment of an Islamic state in the past to the setting up of a welfare state now.
"It is possible that PAS will once again change their struggle when pushed by the PKR and DAP leadership," Irmohizam (left) was quoted as saying in Umno Online .
"This is why in the Selangor MB issue, PAS changed its backing in favour of Wan Azizah despite stating earlier that it fully supported Khalid Ibrahim (the incumbent menteri besar).
"PAS’ struggle has gone off course and it is becoming increasingly difficult to see and gauge what PAS is fighting for. They have no stand nor voice even in their own party," he added.
Irmohizam said the attitude of PAS leaders, who followed the orders of PKR and DAP, has raised doubts about the party’s future.
"Do they wish to continue being used as a tool until it leads to destruction? They should be firm and brave in showing that PAS has a stand," he added.
Irmohizam also expressed concern that the ulama (religious scholars) in PAS are mere window dressing and not dominant in the party.
"Where is PAS’ slogan of championing an Islamic state? As someone with the same faith, I am saddened by what is happening in PAS.
"They are portraying as if Islam is weak and can be manipulated," he added.
PAS has denied making a U-turn on the menteri besar issue since its syura council had voiced support for Khalid before he was sacked from PKR on Aug 9.
