The remains of Pengkalan Kubor state assemblyperson Noor Zahidi Omar is expected to arrive at Pasir Pekan, Tumpat tomorrow night.
Tumpat Umno division deputy chief Mohd Rosdi Ab Aziz said the delay in bringing back the remains was due to various processes that needed to be done in Guangzhou, China, where he passed away.
“It has to go through the embalming process in a special coffin for air transportation purposes to be brought back to Malaysia which has been expedited.
“So we expect the remains to reach Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Pengkalan Chepa in Kota Baru at 9pm after being flown from Guangzhou to KLIA2 Sepang,” he said when contacted by Bernama in Kota Baru today.
He said the process of bringing home Noor Zahidi’s remains from Pengkalan Chepa to his residence at Pasir Pekan would be done by military personnel.
Noor Zahidi, 57, who died of liver cancer in a hospital in Guangzhou, China yesterday, will be buried in his village.
He had been the Pengkalan Kubor state assemblyperson for three terms and Tumpat Umno division chief for four terms.
In last year’s general election Noor Zahidi, who represented Barisan Nasional, defeated Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Saharun Ibrahim and an Independent, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, with a 1,736-vote majority.
