The Tun Hussien Onn National Eye Hospital has denied claims that it supports the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex), saying it has been misquoted.

The hospital’s chief executive officer Dr M Chandran Sekaran said the hospital, located off Jalan Utara in Petaling Jaya, was erroneously depicted as supporting the controversial elevated highway that would cut through the heart of the city.

Refering to a Kidex advertorial published in The Malaysian Insider (TMI) yesterday, Chandran said it gave the wrong message.

The advertorial, titled 'CEO of PJ eye hospital okays Kidex despite proximity', says Chandran gave the highway his thumbs up.

In a statement today, Chandran said the hospital never made a stand on Kidex and that he was wrongly quoted in the advertorial.

He explained that the advertorial was conceived following the hospital embarking on a study on the impact of the highway for a paper that the hospital board had requested.

Following the hospital board's meeting with Kidex to obtain its input, Chandran said, the hospital did not state its stand on the project at the meeting.

“However, during the interview, in my personal opinion on Kidex (I said) if in the event there was no choice, then Kidex may be considered for development purposes," he said.

“If the people’s choice (such as the action group) ‘Say No To Kidex’ has a valid reason, then they can present the facts for the agencies to look into.”

Chandran added that he was planning to meet up with representatives of the residents' groups on Aug 27 to get their inputs on the project.
