The remains of Pengkalan Kubor state assemblyperson Noor Zahidi Omar was buried in the Kampung Surau Muslim burial grounds, Pasir Pekan in Tumpat last night.

Noor Zahidi, 57, died of liver cancer in a hospital in Guangzhou, China at 5.45am last Wednesday.

His remains were brought back from Guangzhou by commercial flight to KL International Airport (KLIA), Sepang before being flown to Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP), Pengkalan Chepa by C-130 Hercules aircraft.

Among the 500 people present to receive his remains were Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Mustapa Mohamed, Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakub, Kelantan State Assembly speaker Abdullah Ya'kub, several state assemblypersons, Kelantan Umno leaders and his family members.

The remains which arrived at LTSIP at 10.10pm was later brought by a military funeral van to Noor Zahidi's house in Kampung Surau Pasir Pekan for prayers.

The remains were later brought to the cemetery for burial at 11.50pm.

Noor Zahidi was Pengkalan Kubor assemblyperson for three terms and Tumpat Umno division chief for four terms.

In last year's general election, Noor Zahidi, who represented BN, defeated PKR candidate Saharun Ibrahim and an Independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary with a 1,736-vote majority.
