PKR CONGRESS Terengganu PKR delegate Azlan Che Mat has called to the party leadership for help, claiming that they are being “bullied” by PAS in the state.

He urged the party’s central leadership to form a state-level Pakatan Rakyat secretariat to fix the situation in Terengganu, which he said has worsened since the 13th general election.

“We cried, because in the last general election we were intimidated, trampled upon…

“But thank God, perhaps because we fought sincerely, Allah granted us a victory in the Bandar state assembly seat in Terengganu.

“Thank God. We were run down by Umno, for which we were sad and cried enough, (and) we were trampled by our friends in PAS Terengganu. I don’t mean the central PAS leadership, but Terengganu PAS in particular,” he said emphatically.

Azlan ( above ) was speaking at the PKR Congress in Shah Alam today while debating the party’s motions on foreign policy.

He is also the second delegate to decry PAS non-cooperation in today's debates.

Earlier, PKR's Pengkalan Kubor candidate in the general election Saharun Ibrahim had accused an "allied party" of sabotaging PKR in the seat, causing PKR to lose.

The Pengkalan Kubor seat fell vacant last week when its rep Umno's Noor Zahidi Omar passed away.

Strained PAS-PKR ties

PKR had contested at six state assembly seats and one parliamentary seat in Terengganu during the last general election, but PAS placed its candidates to contest in three of these seats as well.

The three seats are Bukit Besi, Kota Putera and Seberang Takir, whereas the other PKR seats where PAS did not contest are Permaisuri, Bandar, and Telemong.

PKR lost in all these seats except in Bandar, which was contested by the party’s state chief Azan Ismail.

In his speech, Azlan (left) also congratulated PKR deputy president Azmin Ali for successfully defending his seat in the recently concluded party election, saying that Azmin had promised to intervene on PKR Terengganu’s behalf.

The Kelantan and Terengganu delegates' speeches revives old strife between PKR and PAS, due to three-corner fights involving the parties in the general polls.

PKR-PAS relations have also been strained by the ongoing Selangor menteri besar crisis, where PAS insisted on nominating two replacement MB candidates.

This is despite PKR saying that they only want to nominate president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Azmin: PKR-PAS conflict 'isolated'

Meanwhile, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali believes that PAS and PKR’s relations in Terengganu and Kelantan can be resolved within the Pakatan Rakyat framework.

Azmin (right) was responding to the grouses aired by both Kelantan and Terengganu PKR delegates against PAS.

“We respect their views but our responsibility is to ensure that Pakatan Rakyat remains strong.

“I don’t view it as a national problem. It is an isolated one that can be resolved accordingly.

“It is the delegates’ views and we cannot prevent them from voicing them. I can give an assurance that the matter can be resolved with the Pakatan Rakyat spirit,” he said.
