The Johor Baru Umno Youth division today suggested the Johor government to be proactive in handling of issues on house ownership by foreigners in the state.

Its leader, Syaiful Rizal Abdul Ghani, suggested that foreigners be allowed to only own strata houses and not landed property.

This, he said, would have an impact on the price of houses in Johor Bahru.

"We also want the government to build transit houses in Johor Bahru for married and single youths in the state to rent," he said at the Johor Bahu Umno delegates meeting here.

He said by building the transit houses, it would facilitate efforts to retain Johor Baru as a Malay area.

The movement, he said, welcome the state government's move to not extend the lease for industrial land in Larkin and Tampoi and hoped that by doing so, the two areas would be made Malay reserves.
