Is PAS looking to part ways with Pakatan?

YOURSAY 'How can they be friends when they behave like enemies?’

PAS will not sign SDs to support Wan Azizah

Tholu: PAS' decision to leave it to the sultan to determine the Selangor menteri besar's position is but an act of hypocrisy and a stab in the back of PKR. It's also an act of betrayal of the trust and cooperation expected from PKR and DAP.

While acknowledging the fact that it won an unprecedented number of seats in the past two general elections by forming an alliance with PKR and DAP, it has the unmitigated effrontery to not back PKR in the most desperate of moments and callously leaves it to the sultan to decide on the pressing issue.

Its decision is actually a not-so-subtle message to PKR and DAP that it does not agree to PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail being the MB and that it is willing to part ways with the parties.

PAS is openly revealing its sexist stance as well as its unreliability as a partner in the opposition coalition. It pretends not to understand the meaning of the system of constitutional monarchy.

PKR and DAP would be better poised to take over the government, without PAS in the fray.

Tiger50: PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali is behaving just like Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim. When Pakatan can make an outright decision on the choice of MB, why leave it to the sultan to decide?

Is he hoping that the sultan will appoint a PAS candidate and then later claim that he has no choice but to accept, as it was the wish of the sultan?

Something sinister is going on in PAS and it does not augur well for Pakatan. Is PAS nullifying the right of its 13 assemblypersons on this matter or it is throwing the weight of the 13 votes to Khalid Ibrahim/BN?

If it is not, then say so and Khalid/BN will have only 13 votes without PAS. This is important for the sultan to know.

Victor Johan: Perhaps PAS is working on a strategy to 'run with the Pakatan hares and hunt with the Umno hounds', but what does Mustafa mean when he said: "Tuanku can choose, Tuanku can choose who he wants"?

It was the Selangor voters who overwhelmingly gave Pakatan more than three-quarters majority over Umno-BN to be state government and it is the Pakatan representatives in the state assembly that should select the MB.

The Selangor sultan only has to endorse the selection as in any constitutional monarchy. The sultan does not choose, otherwise he contravenes the state legislation.

Mustafa and PAS leadership, take ownership and don’t not pass the buck to the sultan.

Tentarik: I believe PAS has an agenda, they want to leave Pakatan but dare not, and only waiting to be sacked from the coalition and put the blame on Pakatan so that they can join up with BN and form a unity government to take over Selangor.

Whatever the outcome of the appointment of the MB, rest assured PAS will pay dearly for the stupidity of their leaders. After all, they got kicked out in Terengganu and Kedah.

Bluemountains: From now on, Pakatan must move ahead without PAS. DAP and PKR must be ready to field candidates in every constituency that PAS contests. How can you treat them as friends when they are behaving worse than enemies?

Bamboo: PAS won the seats in Selangor due to support for Pakatan. But this got into their heads that there are kingmakers now. PAS' betrayal will be remembered and PAS will lose many seats in future elections.

Axolotl: I’m sorry to see PAS come to such an ignoble end after fighting so valiantly alongside PKR and DAP since GE12.

I hope the few visionary leaders in PAS - Mohamad Sabu, Khalid Samad, Nizar Jamaluddin, Dzulkefly Ahmad, Saari Sungib, Hasnul Baharuddin, Hatta Ramli, perhaps even Salahuddin Ayub, will make a firm stand in support of Wan Azizah and further dilute the unhealthy influence of the ulama.

J Ng: I find it difficult to understand PAS’ stand on leaving the MB position to the sultan. As a constitutional monarchy democracy, political decisions should be decided by the political party with the biggest majority.

Why drag the palace into deciding unless PAS has other motives?

wg321: Is it unIslamic for PAS ulama and their syura council to support a woman to be menteri besar? Can PAS leader Abdul Hadi Awang make a public statement that they are against a woman MB?

Don't push the ‘baby’ to the sultan. On one hand, they want female votes but on the other, they don’t want a woman to be MB. These PAS ulama supported by Hadi Awang are hypocrites.

KWT: It is no use if the one appointed by the sultan does not get the support of the assembly. If the Selangor state constitution is not the final law to follow, it might as well be thrown into the drain.

The Mask: I really hope that the sultan will decide to dissolve the state assembly so that there will be an election.

I say this because should the sultan accept Wan Azizah as the new MB, and PAS remains in the coalition, there will be unending trouble because PAS will forever be a thorn in the flesh of Pakatan, blocking and rejecting any move that is not to their liking.

This has been proven clear enough in the present scenario. So if there is a new election, we will make sure that PAS is completely wiped out so that the coalition of DAP and PKR can run the state smoothly.

This means DAP or PKR must put in a candidate wherever PAS has a candidate. PKR and DAP, you have been warned. It's your move now. PAS has proved beyond doubt that they are traitors and cannot be trusted.

Yauap: Instead of ABU, we should go for ABP (Anything But PAS).
