BN will win cheers but lose power, says Khairy

 

Kingfisher: Very well said, Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. Hopefully your sentiments will influence many others concerning the need for neutrality in the civil service in order to foster competence and efficiency.

 

Your advisory reprimand should also alert those civil servants who continue to compromise their efficacy by pandering to the persuasion and perceived threat of victimisation by politicians.

 

Hopefully some of the ‘conservatives’ you mention would realise the fallacy in their values and also that their days are numbered and should quickly align with likes of you to salvage whatever little is left to redeem their legacy. 

 

Kilgore: I suppose one could make exactly the same argument regarding religion. But power hungry leaders like Khairy are experts at compartmentalising their morality, and all the more dangerous because he slips in just enough common sense to fool people into thinking he has a soul and cares about them.

 

Casey: Under the doctrine of trias politica or separation of power as enshrined in our constitution, each of the three branches of government - the legislature, the executive and the judiciary - has separate and independent powers and areas of responsibility so that the powers of one branch are not in conflict with the powers associated with the other branches.

 

Hence, regardless of the control asserted in the legislative branch, federal or state, by any political party, the civil servants owe no allegiance. A civil servant however, is bound by the code of conduct and the responsibility for which he derives his legitimate power or positional power.

 

A judge, for example, is vested with power to see to the administration of justice because of the position and the duties demanded of that position.

 

Even if it's by the dictate of the constitution that his appointment is to be endorsed by the PM, he owes the latter no obligation. In other words, legitimate power is a formal authority delegated to the holder of that position.

 

Now, Khairy, you know as much as we do that the cry of "berjuang untuk bangsa, agama dan negara" is but an artifice, a political myth, designed to conceal from the masses the dominance of self-perpetuating and self-serving ruling class.

 

‘Ketuanan Melayu’ is but an illusionary gale. The poor and the underprivileged are just pawns in chess game. Until and unless Umno wakes up to face the reality; that "you cannot fool all the people all the time", the self-destruction of Umno is not a possibility, but a certainty.

 

The question is: besieged by the ‘wet monkeys syndrome’, can you change? Can Umno Youth force a change?

 

Guns 'n' Roses: Khairy, it has been quite some time since you last spoke some sense, so I welcome your speaking some sense again. It's a welcome change, I'd say.

 

Please keep it up, my friend. You may even end up a Pakatan minister one fine day, if you stay away from Umno's racism and religious bigotry.

 

R1: Thumbs up for KJ, whether he truly meant it or not but what he said is something should be practised by ministers and their government departments.

 

Hearty Malaysian: Civil servants are paid by income tax but to serve the people through elected government but they are not obliged to vote for the ruling government.

 

They can participate to choose the next government just like any citizen. Can't Umno politicians understand this?

 

Keturunan Malaysia: Khairy, allow me to quote what was purportedly said by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Malaysia's longest serving prime minister and former Umno president:

 

"So what they (existing leaders) do is recruit people who are more stupid than them. And when this leader dies, this someone who is more stupid than them will take over... now we have a party with three generations of such leaders. It is now a stupider party."

 

Rest assure, I have not added one single word to the above quote.

 

Mosquitobrain: The discrimination in the civil service is there for everybody to see. Umno-BN only recognises fanatics like Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Ibrahim Ali, Zulkifli Noordin and other pro-Umno NGOs which spin and cook lies, threaten and create hatred. 

 

As long as these fanatics are there, Umno-BN and component parties can simply forget winning back support. Be prepare to loss more.

 

Adam Ningau: Of course, BN doesn't force the civil servants or the people to support them. BN's philosophy is always "I help you, you help me". No coercion is involved.

 

Not Smart: Khairy is trying to send a message that is similar to that of Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's message during the PKR's recent gathering. He is aware that the blaming game exists in BN.

 

However, Rafizi was bold and daring to speak up of such culture without fear of losing his popularity. Khairy is beating about the bush whilst trying send a similar message. Good try though.

 

4W4K3N1N6: It is the minister's obligation to convince the non-supporters why they should support him/her and/or his/her party. Coercion has no place in these days and age.

 

Doc: It looks like the civil servants apply the same type of enthusiasm in their jobs as well as in cheering on BN come election time - mediocre at best.
