A former Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) member was today sentenced to a total of four years’ jail and fined RM100,000, in default a year’s jail, by the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today for power abuse and using as genuine forged documents.

Judge M Bakri Abd Majid handed down the sentence on Hamdan Ismail, 51, after finding him guilty of the charges.

Hamdan was sentenced to three years’ jail and fined RM100,000 for the charge of using his post to obtain approval for a company, Alam Muhibbah Enterprise, which belonged to his daughter, Yuwafee Heidi, to build  bumps at Jalan LEP 6 and Jalan PP1, as well as do road repairs at Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan, at a cost of RM19,790.

The offence was committed at the MPSJ office in Subang Jaya in February 2010.

He was also sentenced to a year's jail on the second count of using as genuine the minutes of meeting of the MPSJ Zone 19 Residents Committee, dated Dec 3, 2009, which he knew was a forged document.

The offence was committed at the Community Service Division, Complex 3C, MPSJ Subang Jaya on Dec 3, 2010.

However, M Bakri allowed a stay of the jail sentences, which were to be served concurrently, following an application by Hamdan’s counsel, Ahmad Nizam Hamid to appeal to the High Court.

The jail sentences were ordered to be served concurrently.

Hamdan, a businessman, paid the fine.

The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Sukri Seman, from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
