The Majlis Perhimpunan Melayu (Malay Assembly Council) yesterday drew up an emergency resolution urging loyalty to the Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah's discretion regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.

Secretary of the Council (MPM), Dr Hasan Mad, said the phrase 'sole discretion' used in the Selangor State Constitution 1959 provided clear powers to Sultan Sharafuddin and should not be questioned by any party.

"The MPM has made five resolutions including giving full support to Sultan Sharafuddin's ruling that PAS, PKR and DAP nominate more than two names for the post of the new Menteri Besar," he told a press conference held after the Fifth Annual Conference of non-governmental organisations in Kuala Lumpur.

The second resolution urged the parties concerned to abide by the sultan's ruling while the third voiced disappointment over the PKR and DAP's decision not to abide by the sultan's ruling by presenting only one name, that of PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.    

The fourth resolution urged the government to take firm action against any individual or organisation which created negative and seditious perceptions of the sultan.

In the fifth resolution, the MPM hoped society would be more responsible in making comments about the powers of the Selangor sultan and the Malay rulers.

Hasan said the resolutions were part of MPM's annual report which was presented to the sultan in support of his decisions.

The process to find a new menteri besar was an outcome of the decision by Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to relinquish his post.
