The Home Ministry has denied creating an Internal Security Division Special Intelligence Unit at the ministry which gives authority to its personnel to conduct enforcement and money collection from any parties.

Ministry senior deputy secretary-general (security) Alwi Ibrahim said all officers and staff were also not provided with agent authority cards and only used the official card issued by the Malaysian chief security officer for identity.

“There was a case of a man who flashed his agent authority card to Malacca City Council enforcement personnel in a raid at an entertainment centre early Saturday morning,” he said in a statement in Putrajaya today.

According to him, the man displayed his card which said he is a Home Ministry spy and alleged the card was obtained from the ministry in April this year.

Following that, he said a hotel employee in Malacca was called by police to give his statement for possession of the authority card.

Alwi said similar cases were reported in 2011, and as such the ministry was advising the people not to be easily tricked by parties using such authority cards.

Those with information on individuals carrying such Home Ministry authority cards are advised to contact the nearest police station.
