PAS' powerful syura council has declared that the party's central committee must abide by the decisions made by president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The declaration comes after Hadi overruled the PAS central committee and submitted his own list of candidates to the Selangor palace for consideration as menteri besar.

"The president has power to decide in matters concerning the party's interest under Article 26(1)(a) which states that the president is responsible as chief for the administration, movement and activities of PAS.

"It is the duty of the PAS central committee members to execute their responsibilities and the president's orders as provided under Article 26(9)(m)," the council said in reference to the party's constitution, according to Harakahdaily .

The council also urged party members against any negative speculation which can be detrimental to Islam.

On Wednesday, Hadi’s office submitted only PAS candidates to the Selangor palace despite repeated insistence that it did not intend to grab the menteri besar position from PKR.

The list was subsequently amended to two PKR candidates and one PAS after opposition from the Islamic party's senior leaders.

However, both lists did not inlcude the names of PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and her deputy Azmin Ali which was endorsed by the PAS central committee on Aug 17.

The move has frustrated PKR and DAP which have backed Wan Azizah as the sole candidate to replace Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim who has lost majority support in the state assembly.
